MMABay sat down this week for an EXCLUSIVE interview with Shark Fights light heavyweight champion and veteran of the Strikeforce cage, Trevor Prangley to talk to him about his tricky upcoming fight with Roger Gracie on the January 29th card in San Jose, California. Check out what the man had to say for yourself…Hi Trevor,
Thank you for taking the time to sit down with MMABay and answer a few of our questions.
Prangley – Hey man you are welcome.
MMABay – You were last in action on the Shark Fights 13 card, defeating former UFC light heavyweight, Keith Jardine in the main event of the evening. What are your thoughts on how the fight went and do you consider it to be one of the biggest wins of your career to date?
Prangley – I think the fight went according to plan which was to strike early and cause some damage enabling me to control the pace of the fight. It was definitely a big win for me at a crucial time in my career.
MMABay – You’ve been switching between the middleweight and light heavyweight divisions in the past couple of months. Do you see yourself settling on one or the other division or does it really depend on which organisation you’re fighting for at the time?
Prangley – It depends on which fights present themselves, I’m here to fight and to entertain and when the opportunity presents itself I’m not picky.
MMABay – Where do you see yourself fitting in when it comes to Strikeforce? There were rumours of a middleweight tournament last year which you would no doubt have been a part of. Is a title with Strikeforce your main goal heading in to 2011?
Prangley – My main goal is to take each fight as it comes and do my best, not to looking to far into the future and losing track of the present.
MMABay – Your next opponent is famed Jiu-Jitsu practitioner, Roger Gracie at the Strikeforce event at the end of the month. Does it make it any more difficult preparing for someone who will no doubt be looking to fight you on the ground after you’ve just faced practically his opposite?
Prangley – No wrestling is my foundation and it is what will determine where this fight takes place.
MMABay – Have you been working on anything specific ahead of the fight and is it safe to assume you’d like to keep this one standing for as long as possible?
Prangley – I’ve been working a lot more foot movement and clinch defence.
MMABay – Where do you think a win puts you in the light heavyweight division and how do you feel you’d match up with the likes of Rafael “Feijao” Cavalcante, Dan Henderson and “King Mo” Lawal at the top of the tree?
Prangley – Not sure and not concerned about that, I have good managers and trainers who can deal with that my job is to train and win.
MMABay – Finally, for any new fans that will be tuning in for the first time on January 29th, what can we expect from you at ‘Strikeforce: Diaz vs. Cyborg’?
Prangley – They will see me win not sure how yet but I will win.
MMABay – Have you got any sponsors you’d like to mention or people you’d like to thank before we finish?
Prangley – Just wanna thank the mighty Lord above for all my blessings and for all the good people He has put in my life.
MMABay – Thanks for taking the time to speak to MMABay.
Prangley – You are welcome thanks for the chance to be heard.
