EXCLUSIVE – Ray Sefo confirms he’ll fight Valentijn Overeem on February 12th, thinks Alistair Overeem is the number one heavyweight in the world

K-1 legend, Ray Sefo sat down with MMABay earlier this week for an EXCLUSIVE interview, revealing he would indeed be taking on Dutch heavy hitter, Valentjin Overeem on the upcoming Strikeforce card on February 12th in East Rutherford, New Jersey, as well as singling out another Overeem for praise.
Speaking during an interview conducted earlier this week, Sefo said:
“Yes it’s true about the fight and as for Valentijn Overeem he’s a great fighter and has been around in the MMA world for a long time so it’s gonna be a tough fight. I’ve met Valentijn a few times in Japan and in Europe and he’s a really nice guy.”
The man dubbed “Sugarfoot” was then asked whether he thought Strikeforce had a better current crop of heavyweights at their disposal than the UFC, and while he didn’t give a definitive answer, he did single one man out for special praise.
“It’s hard to say which is better because they’re both great events and they both have a good amount of great fighters. What I can say though is that I think Alistair Overeem is the number heavyweight out there today.”
Sefo hasn’t been seen in the MMA arena since he defeated former UFC fighter, Kevin Jordan at Strikeforce Challengers 3 in August 2009. Prior to that he defeated Min-Soo Kim with a head kick back in 2005. Stay tuned to MMABay in the next twenty four hours for the full interview with the man dubbed “Sugarfoot”.
