Mark Hunt-Stefan Struve Completes All-Heavyweight Main Draw at UFC 146

Big men will be found aplenty at UFC 146, as promotion officials Wednesday confirmed that Stefan Struve will meet Mark Hunt as part of an all-heavyweight pay-per-view card on Memorial Day Weekend.

Headlined by a heavyweight championship scrap between Junior dos Santos and Alistair Overeem, the event takes place May 26 from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The main draw also features a No. 1 contender’s match between Frank Mir and Cain Velasquez, as well as showdowns pitting Antonio Silva against Roy Nelson and Gabriel Gonzaga against Shane del Rosario.

A veteran of the defunct Pride Fighting Championships, Hunt, 37, rebounded from a six-fight skid to win his last three UFC contests. Following a quick submission defeat to Sean McCorkle in his 2010 Octagon debut, Hunt knocked out Chris Tuchscherer and outpointed Ben Rothwell last year. Most recently, the New Zealand native finished the favored Cheick Kongo at UFC 144 on Feb. 26, earning a first-round technical knockout over the Frenchman in the UFC’s return to Japan.

Struve enters the cage 13 years the junior of his opponent. A winner in four of his last five outings, the tallest fighter in the UFC has racked up a 7-3 Octagon record since joining the promotion three years ago. “Skyscraper” suffered his most recent setback in May of last year, falling by first-round knockout to Travis Browne at UFC 130. The Dutchman closed out 2011 with a win, however, submitting Pat Barry with a triangle choke before kicking of 2012 with a second-round knockout of Dave Herman at UFC on Fuel TV 1.
