If Anthony Pettis wants a fight, Joe Lauzon will be happy to oblige.
In an interview with cagefanatic.com, Pettis said he wants to fight a top-five lightweight. When asked if he had a specific opponent in mind, Pettis suggested Lauzon.
Lauzon is ready and willing if the UFC decides to match-up the rising lightweights.
“I think it would be an exciting fight,” Lauzon told the Herald today. “It doesn’t matter to me who I fight. Whoever the UFC says they want me to fight, I’ll fight. If they want it to be Anthony Pettis, I’ll fight Pettis. It doesn’t really matter to me that much. I’m up for whoever.”
Lauzon and Pettis both were victorious at UFC 136 on Oct. 8. Lauzon demolished Melvin Guillard, taking just 47 seconds to finish the highly-ranked contender with a rear-naked choke. Pettis pulled out a split decision over Jeremy Stephens.
Pettis may need to be careful what he wishes for, as Guillard lobbied for the fight with Lauzon at UFC 136. Lauzon has no idea why he’s found himself in the crosshairs lately.
“I must have (ticked) off someone,” Lauzon said. “I’m not sure why people are calling me out, but I’m fine with it. I have to be doing something right if everybody wants to fight me. I definitely don’t think it’s a bad thing. It’s awesome getting called out by guys like that, that are doing really well.”
With two consecutive wins Lauzon is in position to build some serious momentum. He’s aware that the upset of Guillard was a solid boost, but isn’t getting carried away.
“I think a lot of people are definitely paying more attention now,” Lauzon said. “But I don’t really get caught up in what people think because two weeks ago everybody thought I was going to get knocked out. So I don’t really worry about it too much.”
