Fitch showed how much he wants another shot at "The Prodigy" by taking to Twitter and "retweeting" every Joe Blow that sent out a request for a second fight between the two.
This initially upset Penn, who politely told Fitch to cut it out and please stop flooding his account with "this monkey business." It seemed as though talks might finally subside.
Nope.
Instead, the two welterweight top contenders went about circumventing the matchmaking process and tried to set up their fight in a series of tweets to one another.
Fitch said he would be good to go in Oct. and he wanted to settle it. Penn replied by stating that month works perfectly for him and he's in.
It seemed we had an accord. There's just one problem with that: apparently that's not what UFC wants.
Penn's latest tweet appears to have put to rest the idea that the fight will come to fruition.
"@jonfitchdotnet tried to make it happen but Joe Silva said 'the fans don't want it & I'm not interested.' Not much more I can do on my end."Bummer.
Of course, Joe Silva, the UFC "matchmaker extraordinaire," is employed by Zuffa for a reason and he is the one who ultimately decides whether or not these match-ups are worth making.
Not the fighters themselves and certainly not on Twitter.
