What happens when Brazilian jiu-jitsu and wrestling collide in the center of the Octagon?
A glorified boxing match ... at least, until fatigue set in.
This is what we found out tonight (June 11, 2011) at the UFC 131: "Dos Santos vs. Carwin" pay-per-view event in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada when Demian Maia went head on against Mark Munoz.
The two grappling specialists traded punches for a round and a half until they decided to play to their strengths once they got a bit tired.
Once they did, wrestling ruled the day, as Munoz brought home a hugely important unanimous decision win.

It wasn't without a ton of adversity, though.
Maia opened the fight with a full head of steam, applying pressure from the early going and not letting up until his muscles started to wear out.
Unfortunately, he could never quite hold or keep dominant position. Munoz had no such trouble, utilizing a strong base to keep his crafty submission foe at bay.
It's a big win for "The Filipino Wrecking Machine," one that comes against a former title contender and likely shoots him straight up the 185-pound ladder.
