The UFC has made official two more undercard scraps for
UFC Live 5 “Hardy vs. Lytle,” bringing the total number of confirmed bouts for the Aug. 14 event to 10.
Lightweight contests pitting
Jacob Volkmann (Pictured) against
Danny Castillo and
Paul Taylor against
John Makdessi were given the go-ahead Saturday for the UFC’s inaugural trip to Wisconsin. Headlined by a welterweight contest between
Chris Lytle and
Dan Hardy, UFC Live 5 will air live on cable network Versus from the Bradley Center in Milwaukee.
Volkmann, 30, has been on a roll as of late. After dropping his first two UFC bouts as a welterweight, the former Minnesota Golden Gopher has won three straight at 155 pounds, outpointing
Ronys Torres,
Paul Kelly and, most recently,
Antonio McKee at UFC 125 on Jan. 1.
One of the WEC’s most highly-regarded alumni, Castillo racked up a record of 5-3 during his stint in the little blue cage. The 31-year-old Team Alpha Male representative made his UFC debut in March, earning a decision over former title contender
Joe Stevenson at UFC Live 3.
Taylor has split his last four bouts, fighting only twice in the last two years. The Brit’s lone effort in 2010 resulted in defeat, as he was outpointed by
Sam Stout at UFC 121 in November. “Relentless” recovered from the defeat to knock out
Gabe Ruediger in February, earning his first UFC win since besting
Peter Sobotta in June 2009.
Possessing a tae kwon do background, Makdessi has used a bevy of unorthodox striking techniques to rack up an undefeated pro record. The Canadian “Bull” holds a 2-0 Octagon record and was last seen relieving
Kyle Watson of his consciousness with a spinning backfist at UFC 129.
