A welterweight bout between 21-year-old prospect Rory MacDonald (11-1 MMA, 2-1 UFC) and 12-year-veteran Mike Pyle (21-7-1 MMA, 4-2 UFC) has been added to UFC 133.
UFC brass today announced the latest addition to the card.
"Welterweight standouts Mike 'Quicksand' Pyle and Rory 'The Water Boy' MacDonald have verbally agreed to fight at UFC 133 in Philadelphia," UFC president Dana White stated.
UFC 133 takes place Aug. 6 at Philadelphia's Well Fargo Center, and the night's main card airs on pay-per-view.
MacDonald enters the matchup on the strength of an impressive decision win over Nate Diaz at April's UFC 129 event. The Canadian up-and-comer overpowered Diaz for 15 minutes while rebounding from a disappointing last-minute loss to Carlos Condit at UFC 115. MacDonald made his UFC at just 20 years old with a submission win over Mike Guymon in January 2010.
Meanwhile, Pyle carries a three-fight win streak into the contest after sending Ricardo Almeida into retirement with a unanimous-decision win over the Brazilian veteran at March's UFC 128 event. Pyle also owns a decision win over prospect John Hathaway and submission victory over Jesse Lennox during the streak. Pyle is 4-1 in his past five octagon outings, with the lone loss coming to Jake Ellenberger at UFC 108.
