UFC 129 – Jason Brilz looking for a war against Matyushenko, explains two or three minutes wouldn’t do him justice

UFC light heavyweight, Jason Brilz has made it clear that he’s looking for a knock-down, drag-out affair when he steps into the octagon to battle fellow veteran Vladimir Matyushenko later this month at UFC 129 in Toronto, Canada, explaining two or three minutes wouldn’t do justice to all the hard work he’s put in.
Speaking via UFC.com, Brilz said:
“I’ve put in countless hours training for this fight and I don’t want this fight to be over in two or three minutes. I want to grind it out. I want to show that all my training paid off. I want to show everything that I’ve learned. That’s what’s so intriguing about this fight.”
“That’s what makes the fight that more fun for me. He’s going to try and grind me out and I’m going to try and grind him out and we’re going to see what’s going to happen. I don’t see a fast submission or quick knockout or anything. It’s probably going to be a hard fought three round decision. I’m going to be looking for a finish though. If something presents itself I’m going to jump all over it.”
“I love fighting good strikers and I love fighting good Jiu-Jitsu guys, but I always wanted to fight a really great wrestler and he’s a great wrestler. I want to fight someone who is looking to impose their will on me. He’s like a more experienced version of myself in that way. I’m really excited for this fight.”
Brilz is coming off a close decision loss to Antonio Rogerio Nogueira last May which halted his ranks for the division. Prior to that he’d defeated Brad Morris, Tim Boetsch and Eric Schafer since joining the Las Vegas based promotion. Stay tuned to MMABay for more build-up to this one as it comes in.
