Gesias Cavalcante is currently madly in anger with his employers, both FEG and Strikeforce. The former because they haven't paid him for his fight with DREAM in July 2010 and the latter because they still haven't gotten him a fight since his October 2010 loss to Josh Thomson.
With all the problems facing Japanese MMA in the wake of the earthquake/tsunami combination that dominated the country recently is realistic to think he'll never see his moolah from his work overseas.
However, his issues stateside are, while lesser in scope, seemingly easier to take care of. At least, one would think.
The Brazilian has been rumored for each show the San Jose based promotion has run so far this year but has yet to appear on any of them with no date set for his return.
Why? He doesn't know but he tells Tatame things aren't good with Strikeforce after all this dilly-dallying:
"(Things are) not good at all. They've been promising me a fight since December and every month they say the same thing: that I'll be on their next card, next month... Meanwhile they've offered me two bouts with five days in advance and I asked them sometime to think about it. They called me in the morning and I asked them to give an answer in the evening. Then, when I called them, they have found someone already, and they didn't tell me anything, they didn't call me... I hope that with Strikeforce's purchase, its organization will improve, and also its structure."On top of all his issues with both DREAM and Strikeforce, "JZ" has also split with American Top Team in Florida. When it rains it pours.
Cavalcante has fought just four times in three years. He's gone a wretched 1-3 during that span, defeating Katsunori Kikuno while losing to Shinya Aoki, Tatsuya Kawajiri and most recently, Josh Thomson.
He's got three fights left on his contract with Strikeforce and hopes the Zuffa purchase will open the door to better organization of upcoming fight cards.
