The opening fight of UFC 126: "'Silva vs. Belfort" from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, between Miguel Torres and Antonio Banuelos mostly fell flat.
The boos emanating from the crowd is what gave it away.
World class coach Greg Jackson left his mark on this bout, with Torres taking a unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27) by using his length to pick apart his diminutive opponent.
His strategy of keeping distance and landing a stiff jab while countering Banuelos was solid but it certainly wasn't a crowd pleaser.
Not exactly a great way to start the former WEC champion's UFC career.
That's not to say Banuelos didn't do his best to make it a fight. He jumped in and did what he could with his T-Rex level reach, at least relative to his towering opponent.
For his part, Torres didn't look like the 135-pound killer he used to be but a successful debut with the world's largest fight promotion will have to do -- for now.
Banuelos may have pleased the bosses with a late flurry that got the crowd to their feet but it was simply too little too late. He did what he could to bring the fight to his mullet-headed counterpart, so expect to see him back in the cage before long.
