UFC 159: Phil Davis Pre-Fight Interview

Raphael Assuncao signs a new contract with the UFC

Vitor Belfort "the UFC have always known iv'e used TRT"

Speaking via Tatame Magazine, Belfort said:

“The UFC always knew that I use, do not do it to cheat. I have medical monitoring and UFC also accompanies it. Never broken through anything, always acted cleanly. Do blood tests every week to equal the testosterone levels of a person my age. Many people are averse to treatment. I am not. I am in favor of people being open and fair in what they are doing.”

BELLATOR 94 hits 1.07m VIEWERS ON SPIKE TV

The penultimate event of Bellator’s eighth season averaged 713,000 viewers for its Thursday-night broadcast on Spike TV.

Sherdog.com recently confirmed the figure with an industry source, who also relayed that the show’s immediate replay earned an additional 359,000 viewers for a total of 1.07 million viewers over the four-hour block.

The live figure represents a slight downturn for the fight program, which netted 741,000 during last week’s Bellator 93 broadcast. Bellator’s season high was set in its debut on Spike TV, as Bellator 85 attracted 938,000 observers to the Viacom-owned cable network on Jan. 17.

"Prince of Persia" signs with One FC

Former WEC and UFC lightweight Kamal Shalorus will make his ONE FC debut against Eduard Folayang in Pasay, Philippines
The 40 yr old, former WEC & UFC veteran, signed with the Asian organisation  was dropped by the UFC .

The "Prince of Persia" is coming of a 3 fight loosing streak giving him a mma record of  7-3-2.

ONE FC 9 goes down May 31, 2013, from the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay, Philippines, just outside of Manila.

Michael Bisping wants Belfort rematch.

In a recent interview Bisping was asked which of his opponents he would most like a rematch with, 'The Count' said all of them but most of all the 'Bible bashing' Belfort:

"I'd like to rematch everyone I ever lost to. I'd like to fight Wanderlei again after that bullshit victory he had against me. I'd like to fight Chael again. Even he said I won that fight. I'd fight Rashad. I'd fight Henderson again too. He beat me fair and square, but I still want to fight him again. Obviously I can't do anything without that fight coming up, seeing pictures of it on message boards. And, of course, I'd like another fight with the Bible-bashing Vitor Belfort, Vitor the boring bastard Belfort."

“Obviously I have the utmost admiration for Anderson Silva. He’s proven time and time again that he’s the best. I’m a big fan of Anderson Silva, his fighting style as well as him as a person. I’ve met him a few times, and he’s a good guy. But he’s also the guy I’d most like to fight as well. It would be a travesty if, when I retire, I’ve never fought him. I’ve been close a few times. But that’s nobody’s fault but mine. It’s nobody’s fault but mine and some TRT and some clever doctors.”

Four more fighters cut by UFC .

Josh Neer, Brock Jardine, Caros Fodor and Jon Manley all cut by the Organisation with rumours of another 3 more fighters to follow!

Josh Neer is the fighter that had the most promising career 33-13-1 but since his return to the UFC he went 1-3 with 3 consecutive losses! 'The Dentist' has already been cut by the UFC twice but managed to prove himself and get his papers back, but is this 3strikes and out?

Fodor Caros just had the one fight since his crossover from Strikeforce but losing decision to Sam Stout see's him cut.

Brock Jardine is 0-2 under the UFC banner with a decision loss to Rick Story and a loss to Kenny Robertson in what was UFC 157's ‘Submission of the Night.'

Jon Manley was a TUF 16 semi- finalist that was given a one off chance to prove himself , he met
fellow TUF 16 semi-finalist Neil Magny , which saw Manly lose by decision. And his rights to fight again for UFC.

Demetrious Johnson is optimistic about a return at UFC on FOX 8 July 27th in Seattle the flyweight champion spoke to mmajunkie saying:

"We're right on track to hopefully fight on that card,".
"I'm not going to rush my rehab so I can fight on that card. But right now, I think four months out for that card is good."

"As long as my shoulder doesn't hurt, (trainer) Matt Hume will make the decision and let the UFC know we want on that card,"

Johnson said. "The UFC already knows we do, but we want to see how rehab goes first.

"I would love to headline, but at the same time, I know they have to get ticket sales ready. If they can wait until I'm A-OK, then I'd love to headline the card, but I don't want them to wait on me. As long as I can fight, I'll be happy."

Saturday’s live event peaked with 332,000 NBC Sports Network viewers, a sharp increase of 46 percent from the inaugural World Series of Fighting event in November that peaked with 228,000 viewers.

World Series of Fighting’s sophomore event also averaged 210,000 live viewers, a 6 percent increase from the first event that averaged 198,000 viewers.

The live viewership increase was achieved despite the extraordinary challenge of World Series of Fighting going head-to-head on television with the highly-anticipated NCAA men’s basketball tournament game between No. 1 seed Gonzaga University and No. 9 seed Wichita State University.

Additionally, Sunday’s initial re-broadcast of the latest, five-bout TV card garnered 140,000 viewers, an increase of 75 percent from the first re-broadcast of the promotion’s debut event.

In the heavyweight main event, powerhouse Anthony Johnson (16-3) of Boca Raton, Fla. exchanged bombs with fellow superstar Andrei Arlovski (18-10) of Minsk, Belarus for three rounds before Johnson earned a unanimous decision.

In the bantamweight (135 pounds) co-main event, two-time national Muay Thai champion and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu brown belt Marlon Moraes (10-4) of Jupiter, Fla. via Nova Friburgo, Brazil earned his second straight victory in the World Series of Fighting cage, scoring an explosive first round (2:55) KO on Tyson Nam (12! -5) of Portland, Ore.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt David Branch (12-3) of Brooklyn, N.Y. dominated former PRIDE Fighting Championships superstar and WEC champion Paulo Filho (23-5) of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in a middleweight (185 pounds) contest for three consecutive rounds to earn a unanimous decision victory.

In welterweight (170 pounds) action, Josh Burkman (25-9) of Salt Lake City, Utah took out Aaron Simpson (12-5) of Phoenix, Ariz. in the opening round of their matchup.

D.J. Linderman vacates Cage Warriors title

D.J Linderman told (www.mmajunkie.com/radio) that he's vacated his Cage Warriors heavyweight title and wants the Legacy FC titles in the Light heavyweight & Heavyweight divisions.
Linderman is set to face Robert Drysdale at Legacy FC 19 which takes place April 12 at Allen Event Center in Allen, Texas.

"I'm really looking forward to owning both titles at Legacy,"
"With a win over Drysdale, I should have my shot at either the heavyweight or the light-heavyweight title,"
said Linderman
"I know Drysdale is probably working with some of the best guys in Vegas," Linderman said. "He's watched my videos; he knows I like to stand up and bang. I've been switching a lot of things up that most heavyweight and light heavyweights don't do."

Decimal Controversy: Nick Diaz's lawyer releases texts

Here is the text conversation between Diaz's attorney Jonathan Tweedale (JDT) and Mike Mersch (MM) UFC Vice President of Business and Legal Affairs):

JDT: "Hi Mike. Nick is curious about the .9 pound allowance at today's weigh-in for his championship bout. He doesn't want to be a nuisance about this, but he's a bit confused. Can you shed any light?"
MM: "I don't know what you're talking about. All parties weighed in appropriately according [to] the Quebec Commission."
JDT: "Of course. You're right, and he knows that. He just wanted to know why the Quebec Commission was okay with a 0.9 pound weight allowance for a championship fight. Nick's not going to make an issue of it, but it's been gnawing at him since it was explained to him at the weigh-ins, on an "off the record" basis or otherwise. I just want him to stop thinking about it, and thought you could provide some insight."
MM: "I have been told everyone made weight so there's nothing to make an issue about. He might want to focus on how he's going to win the fight rather than spending the night making excuses about why he lost."
JDT: "C'mon Mike you're just going to stonewall on this issue? We're reaching out in a discreet manner, as appropriate in the circumstances. Meet us half-way."
MM: "Huh? The Commission determined both fighters weighed 170 or less. What am I supposed to do about that? I would think Nick would be excited to compete for the UFC Welterweighttitle. Seems like he's focused on the wrong issue."
JDT: "No one wants you to *do* anything. If the answer is simply "the Quebec Commission permits a promoter to request that .9 pounds be rounded down in a championship fight (unlike, e.g., the Washington commission for Nate's fight), and Zuffa made that request here", then pls confirm. Far better to reach out this way than the uncooperative Twitter/media way."
MM: "How would I know what the Quebec Commission does? I was informed everyone made weight like everyone else at the weigh in. Zuffa made no requests for anything from the Quebec Commission. Good luck to Nick with the fight."

Speaking to ESPN 'One Punch' says:
“Easton likes to come forward in his fights and so do I. So it’s going to be about who can impose their will enough to put the other person on the back foot. It’s a tricky one, even on the ground. He’s a black belt in jiu-jitsu but it doesn’t really bother me. I’m a black belt in MMA. The thing about Easton is he doesn’t pull the trigger. He’s got a lot of aggression but he doesn’t do much with it. With me, I’ll come forward and try to knock your head off.”

Nick Diaz lawyer makes statement over weigh in 'Loophole'

Nick Diaz's lawyer Jonathan Tweedale makes a statement saying that the rules were manipulated in favor of the hometown fighter:

"The Quebec Commission’s statement is a disappointing admission that the March 16 event was not conducted under the rules applicable to a UFC title fight – or under the rules the fighters contractually agreed to, upon which rules Mr. Diaz was entitled to rely under his bout agreement.
Section 168 of the Regulation respecting combat sports provides that the maximum weight that a fighter must achieve at the official weigh-in shall be determined in advance by contract – and if the fighter does not make the contracted weight – in this case 170 pounds – then 20% of his purse or "the contestant’s remuneration" will be deducted and paid to his opponent (subsections (7) and (8)).

The contracted weight for this fight was 170 pounds. 170.9 is not 170, anywhere in the world, for a title fight. There is no question what "170 pounds" means, in the bout agreement, as a matter of contractual interpretation.
The Quebec Commission deliberately relaxed the rule in this case and, by its own admission, allowed their home-town fighter to "make weight" even if he weighed more than the contracted weight.

The Commission’s statement that their Regulation "does not take decimals into account" is bizarre and untrue. Section 74 of the Regulation provides that at an official weigh-in, "[t]he scale shall have graduated readings at each 100 g (3.6 oz) and shall be certified by Measurement Canada." There would be no need to have graduated readings at each 100 g if the Commission "does not take decimals into account."

Tweedle's closing statement was for Diaz to fight GSP in a rematch:

"Further serious irregularities including, inter alia, the Quebec Commission's failure to supervise fighters' provision of samples in connection with testing for Prohibited Substances and Prohibited Methods (under sections 71.1 to 71.6 of the Regulation), will be set out in an official complaint that will be filed imminently.

In the circumstances, Mr. St-Pierre remains legally and ethically obligated to fight Mr. Diaz at 170 pounds or else vacate the belt in favor of those prepared to fight at welterweight."

Melvin Guillard will NOT be welcomed back by Jackson’s MMA

Sherdog.com reported the situation:

A source close to the situation confirmed on Monday that the fighter known as “The Young Assassin” will not be granted access to train with the renowned camp, which he once called home for more than a year and a half. Jackson’s MMA currently houses a bevy of 155-pound talent, from “Fight of the Night” staple Donald Cerrone to up-and-coming Russian prospect Rustam Khabilov. Guillard, meanwhile, has lost four of his last five fights.

The following was reported by Steven Marrocco:

According to Bernalillo County (N.M.) court records, Guillard currently faces five charges: two misdemeanor counts of aggravated battery, to which he pled not guilty. Three misdemeanor counts of failure to appear in court were settled. A jury trial on the assault charges is set for April 10, where he faces six months in jail for each count, in addition to fines and probation.

XFC 23: Louisville Slugfest Adds pair of Middleweights to growing card.

Xtreme Fighting Championships next nationally televised event Live on AXStv will be April 19 for XFC 23: Louisville Slugfest and included in the event is a middleweight bout between Dominique Steele and XFC favorite Gerardo Julio Gallegos. Gallegos returns to the XFC cage for the first time in over a year, looking to bring the fans in his home state of Kentucky and those watching on AXStv yet another exciting fight.

Gallegos brings a pro record of (6-3) into the bout, following two consecutive wins. Both of his most recent wins are by way of submission in the first round, giving Gallegos four career first round finishes, and 4 career submission wins.

Fighting out of Lexington, Kentucky, Gallegos has been competing in the XFC since 2009 when he took his second pro fight against Robert Turner. Turner was a strong favorite, with eight pro fights to his name, but that didn’t keep Gallegos from bringing it to Floridian when the two met at XFC 8. Gallegos submitted Turner in the second round via guillotine. That would be the first of three consecutive wins for Gallegos, including another submission win over Hayder Hassan at XFC 9, followed by one of the quickest KO’s in XFC history (:34 seconds) against TUF vet Shane Primm.
Following back-to-back losses from Mike Bernhard and Amaechi Oselukwue at XFC 11 & 16, Gallegos went back to the regional scene to tune his skill set and gain some additional experience.

In December, he worked his way back into the win column with a knee-bar submission, and then followed that performance with another submission victory in January. With two consecutive first round wins, XFC President John Prisco saw it was time for Gallegos to return the national spotlight and Julio will get another challenging opponent in his return to AXStv, as he takes on Dominique Steele (7-3).

Julio Gallegos gets the curtain call in his home state of Kentucky, as the XFC returns to the Bluegrass state for the first time since 2008; when the promotion set the state attendance record for MMA events. XFC 23 promises to be another great event with a stacked line up that will also include a main event between Shamar Bailey vs Luis Santos, who hold combined records of over 75+ Pro MMA Fights.

For additional information about XFC 23: Louisville Slugfest and the rest of the night’s bouts, visit www.officialxfc.com. Also, follow the promotion hourly on Facebook and Twitter ‘@OfficialXFC’. Keep up with Julio Gallegos and his GJG Foundation on Twitter ‘@GJGWorldWide’. XFC 23 is presented by ICRealTime Security Solutions and ThroatPunch Ind. Apparel and will air live from the Kentucky National Convention Center on AXStv, April 19.

Julia Budd Steps In For Veronica Rothenhausler At Invicta FC 5

Hard-hitting kickboxing stylist Julia “The Jewel” Budd (4-2) of Port Moody, BC Canada will square off with upstart Mollie Estes (1-1) of Kansas City in a featherweight (145 pounds) contest at the highly-anticipated Invicta Fighting Championships women’s Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) world championship doubleheader event at Ameristar Casino Hotel Kansas City on Friday, April 5.
Estes’ original opponent, Veronica Rothenhausler of Sacramento, Calif., has withdrawn from the event due to injury.
The 29-year-old Budd, a prot̩g̩ of former MMA star Lance Gibson known for her phenomenal conditioning, is looking for her third straight victory in the cage after reeling off back-to-back, first-round TKO wins Рboth by way of punches and elbow strikes -in Invicta FC competition. On July 28, 2012, she stopped Elina Nilsson at Invicta FC 2 and, on Oct. 6, 2012, she finished Danielle West at Invicta FC 3.
Budd’s only two career losses to date came at the hands of champion Ronda Rousey and top-ranked Amanda Nunes. In March 2005, Budd became the first fighter to defeat superstar Gina Carano by way of unanimous decision after they faced off in a Muay Thai rules bout.
The 37-year-old Estes will make her second start in the Invicta FC cage after taking on 2008 Olympic wrestling bronze medalist Randi Miller at the promotion’s inaugural event on April 28, 2011. Expected to be disposed of in the early going of the matchup against the world-class wrestler, Estes held her own and pushed Miller into the third and final scheduled round of the contest before being stopped with a barrage of punches from Miller.
Before turning pro with a three-round unanimous decision victory over Lacie Jackson on Oct. 1, 2011, Estes enjoyed a splendid, two-year stint as an amateur, compiling an overall record of 7-1, with all 7 of her wins coming by way of (T)KO or submission.
Tickets for Invicta FC 5, priced from $25, are on sale online at TicketFly.com.
In the main event of the stacked 13-bout card, reigning Invicta FC Atomweight (105 pounds) Champion Jessica Penne (10-1) of Huntington Beach, Calif. will defend her crown against superstar Michelle “The Karate Hottie” Waterson (10-3) of Albuquerque, N.M. and, in the co-main event and first-ever Invicta FC flyweight (125 pounds) title fight, submission ace Vanessa Porto (15-5) of Sao Paulo, Brazil will square off with red-hot star Barb Honchak (7-2) of Bettendorf, Iowa.
Pound for pound great and devastating KO artist Cris Cyborg (10-1, 1 NC) of Curitiba, Brazil will make her highly-anticipated Invicta FC debut against rising star Fiona Muxlow (6-2) of Townsville, Queensland Australia in a featherweight matchup.

Flyweight superstar Zoila Frausto Gurgel (12-2) of Cincinnati, Ohio will also make her Invicta FC debut in another featured bout against submission expert Jennifer Maia (6-2) of Curitiba, Parana Brazil.
In other action on the eight-bout main card, bantamweight (135 pounds) superstar Sarah Kaufman (15-2) of Victoria, BC Canada will make her long-awaited Invicta FC debut against dangerous striker and Invicta FC 3 and Invicta FC 4 winner Leslie “The Peacemaker” Smith (5-2-1) of Pleasant Hill, Calif.

Undefeated KO artist Lauren Taylor (5-0) of Anchorage, Alaska will battle hard-hitting Kaitlin Young (7-7-1) of St. Louis Park, Minn. at bantamweight.
Crowd-pleasing “Rowdy” Bec Hyatt (4-2) of Brisbane, Australia will look to return to the win column against undefeated sensation and Invicta FC newcomer Jasminka Cive (5-0) of Graz, Austria in a strawweight (115 pounds) meeting.

The Invicta FC five-fight preliminary card will be highlighted by a bantamweight tilt between two undefeated prospects in powerhouse Jessamyn “The Gun” Duke (2-0) of Richmond, Ky. and Muay Thai stylist Miriam Nakamoto (1-0) of Dublin, Calif.
Katja Kankaanpaa (7-0-1) of Seinajoki, Finland will square off with fellow undefeated rising star Juliana Carnerio Lima (5-0) of Belo Horizonte, Brazil at strawweight in what will mark both fighters’ Invicta FC debuts.

Alex Chambers (3-1) of St. Ives New South Wales, Australia will meet unbeaten Jodie Esquibel (3-0) of Albuquerque, N.M. at atomweight.
Fresh off of her professional debut victory in the Invicta FC cage, top-flight prospect Rose Namajunas (1-0) of St. Paul, Minn. will face off with fellow undefeated upstart Kathina Catron (2-0) of Tehlequa, Okla. at strawweight.

Is This the New Ronda Rousey? - Inside MMA

Nick Diaz Tells His Ronda Rousey Fantasy

"The Korean Zombie" was 'shocked' by GSP's Gi says its a symbol of war crimes.

Chan Sung Jung was "shocked" to see GSP wearing a Japanese 'rising sun' gi, he found this disrespectful ,says it was a reminder to Asians of the many war crimes its people fell victim to at the hands of the Japanese military.

"The Korean Zombie" took to his Facebook page explaining his concern:

Dear Mr. Georges St. Pierre
Hi, My name is Chan Sung Jung from South Korea. As one of many Koreans who like you as an incredible athlete, I feel like I should tell you that many Korean fans, including myself, were shocked to see you in your gi designed after the Japanese ‘Rising Sun Flag’. For Asians, this flag is a symbol of war crimes, much like the German Hakenkreuzflagge. Did you know that? I hope not.
Just like Nazis, the Japanese also committed atrocities under the name of ‘Militarism’. You can easily learn what they’ve done by googling (please do), although it’s only the tiny tip of an enormous iceberg.

Furthermore, the Japanese Government never gave a sincere apology, and still to this day, so many victims are dying in pain, heartbroken, without being compensated. But many westerners like to wear clothes designed after the symbol under which so many war crimes and so much tragedy happened, which is ridiculous.
I know most of them are not militarists. I know most of them do not approve unjustified invasion, torture, massacre, etc. They’re just ignorant. It’s such a shame that many westerners are not aware of this tragic fact. Wearing Rising Sun outfits is as bad as wearing clothes with the Nazi mark on it, if not worse.

Since you’re influenced by Japanese Martial Arts, your wearing a headband designed after Japanese flag is understandable. But again, that huge ‘Rising Sun’ on your Gi means something else.
Many people say GSP is the best Welterweight fighter throughout history, to which I totally agree. This means you have a great influence on every single fan of yours all around the world. And I do believe your wearing ‘the symbol of War Crime’ is a very bad example for them, not to mention for yourself.

So, what do you reckon?
Do you want to wear the same Gi next time as well?

Late Rule change for Diaz vs GSP (Canadian Loophole).

A transcript of the above conversation between Senior Vice President of Business and Legal Affairs and Assistant General Counsel for the UFC Michael Mersh and the Diaz camp (via The Underground):

Mersh: "They're going to allow you and Georges to have an extra hour, just in case somebody doesn't make it. But the good news is, they don't count the decimal. If you're 170.2 it's 170. If it's 170.9. it's 170." Team Diaz: "Why didn't we know that before?" Mersh: "Should be fine, hopefully, other than that. Just so you guys are in the loop, if there's ..."
Team Diaz: "Why didn't you tell us that yesterday?"

Mersh: "Well, no, it's just something to keep in mind. That's kind of an off the record type of thing. But keep that in mind. As long as he's under 171, we should be good. But, there is a time period afterwards, for you and Georges only. All the other fighters have to make it the first time. Just letting you guys be in the loop, okay? Good luck!"
Team Diaz: "That's a loophole... A Canadian loophole."

Nick Newell To Defend Title Versus Scott Holtzman At XFC 24 On June 24

Xtreme Fighting Championships will return to Tampa Bay on June 14 for XFC 24 at the USF Sundome. The promotion has been touring the United States, outside of Florida since December of 2011, and will return to the city where it all began for an event that is headlined with the first title defense for current lightweight Champion "Notorious" Nick Newell (9-0) and rising star Scott Holtzman (4-0).
After holding 10 events at the Tampa Bay Times Forum (then the St. Pete Times Forum), the XFC spent 2012 and the beginning of 2013 traveling the southeast and executing events in Kentucky, North Carolina, and Tennessee. Now, with a much larger & more dedicated fan base, the XFC returns to the city where its fans once set state attendance records for MMA; Tampa, Florida.
XFC President John Prisco made the announcement for the date and location after receiving thousands of messages & tweets wondering when the promotion would return to its stomping grounds. "I am excited to be coming back to Tampa. This is where it all began for us," said Prsico. "We spent some time expanding our fan base and signing talent from across the country, now it's time for the XFC to deliver another great show in Tampa."
A full bout line up has not been announced, however the show is expected to feature some of the top fighters under the XFC banner, several top local standouts, a women's bout, and recent Open Fighter Tryout winner Jeremiah Labiano. Numerous Florida fighters are under contract with the promotion and generally travel out of state to be a part of XFC events, so it is likely that a descent handful will be a part of the first event in their home state in almost 2 years.
